Successful corporate tax filing in Indonesia comes from routine, not last-minute effort: a monthly compliance calendar, reconciled withholding records, a clean reconciliation from accounts to taxable income, and a Coretax account that works before the deadline. Companies file the annual return by 30 April for a calendar tax year.

What does a corporate annual return (SPT Tahunan) require?
A corporate annual return reports taxable income, tax credits and the balance due, and must be supported by financial statements and a reconciliation of accounting profit to taxable income.
Corporate taxable income is revenue less deductible costs, adjusted for items the tax law treats differently from accounting. DGT's Coretax guidance states that financial statements are attached by all corporate taxpayers according to their bookkeeping method, that audited statements are attached where the accounts were audited, and that the reconciliation attachment (Lampiran 1) depends on the business sector selected. The return begins with the main form and then the attachments, and a balance due can be settled through a tax deposit or billing code before submission (Coretaxpedia guide). For a step-by-step view aimed at smaller businesses, see our SPT Tahunan guide for SMEs.
What is the filing and payment calendar?
Corporate returns are due four months after year-end (30 April for calendar-year companies), and monthly withholding is deposited by the 10th and reported by the 20th of the following month.
| Obligation | Timing | Source basis |
|---|---|---|
| Annual corporate return (SPT Tahunan) | 4 months after year-end, 30 April | UU KUP Art. 3(3) |
| Extension notice (up to 2 months) | Within the 4-month period | UU KUP Art. 3(4); PMK 81/2024 |
| Late-filing penalty, corporate | Rp1,000,000 | UU KUP Art. 7 |
| PPh 21 and PPh 23 deposit | 10th of following month | PMK 184/PMK.03/2007 as amended, per DGT |
| PPh 21 and PPh 23 monthly return | 20th of following month | DGT guidance |
| VAT payment and monthly return | End of following month | See Apa Itu PPN? |
The deadline source is DGT's filing deadline guidance and its payment and reporting deadline page. Because Coretax notices sometimes adjust dates for transition periods, a calendar should be owned by one person and checked against current announcements. Late payment of tax is a separate matter from late filing, so a return with a balance due should be paid on time even if you apply for more time to file.
Which strategies reduce the risk of errors?
The most effective strategies are reconciliation, early preparation, correct classification of payments and a documented review before submission.
- Reconcile withholding every month. Match PPh 21, PPh 23 and other certificates issued and received in Coretax with the general ledger. Mismatches found in April are harder to fix than mismatches found in February. See Income Tax Article 21 and Tarif Pajak PPh 23 (Indonesian) for the monthly withholding rules.
- Classify payments before booking them. A single invoice may combine services, rent and goods that fall under different rules. Split them in the accounting system.
- Prepare the tax reconciliation during the audit, not after. Where statements are audited, the audited version is the one attached to the return.
- Test your regime eligibility. Article 31E gives a 50% reduction on the portion of taxable income relating to turnover up to Rp4.8 billion for companies with turnover up to Rp50 billion (DGT explanation). It is a legal entitlement, not a planning device, and gross turnover must be computed correctly.
- Check Coretax access in advance. Tax year 2024 returns were filed in DJP Online, whereas tax year 2025 returns were filed in Coretax. Confirm account roles, the registered taxpayer number (16-digit format) and who is authorised to submit.
- Keep supporting files. Contracts, invoices, bukti potong and calculations should be retrievable by tax period. This is also the evidence an auditor will request.
How do the Article 31E facility and standard rate interact?
The standard corporate rate is 22%, and Article 31E halves the rate on the part of taxable income attributable to turnover up to Rp4.8 billion for qualifying companies.
Illustration (assumes taxable income is apportioned by turnover): turnover Rp10 billion, taxable income Rp1 billion. Taxable income attributable to the first Rp4.8 billion is 48% × Rp1 billion = Rp480 million, taxed at 11% = Rp52.8 million. The balance, Rp520 million, is taxed at 22% = Rp114.4 million. Total Rp167.2 million, against Rp220 million at 22% on all taxable income. The reduction is not elective under DGT's explanation, so it needs to be applied in the return. Check the apportionment wording in the law before relying on the calculation for a real return.
The 0.5% final regime for small businesses was retained by PP 20/2026, but eligibility by entity type changed (DGT overview). Confirm whether your legal form qualifies before assuming it.
What should foreign-owned companies watch?
Foreign-owned companies should review withholding on payments abroad, taxpayer identity data, and consistency between the tax return and other regulatory filings.
Payments to non-residents are handled under Article 26 rather than Article 23, and treaty relief depends on documentation and the specific treaty; seek advice per transaction. Branch and site identification follows NITKU rules, with obligations for multiple business places carried out centrally under PMK 81/2024 (see NPWP Online, in Indonesian). Align the return with VAT filings, which are covered in VAT in Indonesia.
An independent pre-filing review can spot reconciliation gaps before DGT does. JCSS Indonesia provides this through its Tax Compliance and Audit Readiness service.
Frequently asked questions
What are the main corporate tax filing deadlines in Indonesia?
The annual return is due four months after year-end, which is 30 April for a calendar tax year, under Article 3(3) of UU KUP. Monthly PPh 21 and PPh 23 are deposited by the 10th and reported by the 20th of the following month, according to DGT guidance.
Can a company extend its annual return deadline?
Yes. Article 3(4) of UU KUP allows an extension of up to two months if DGT is notified within the filing period; for corporates that means by 30 April for calendar-year companies. The extension covers filing only, so tax payable should still be paid on time.
What documents go with the corporate return?
Financial statements are attached according to the bookkeeping method, and audited statements are attached where the accounts were audited. The reconciliation attachment (Lampiran 1) depends on the business sector selected in Coretax, and the main form is completed before the attachments.
Is the 22% corporate rate still current?
DGT sources state the Article 17 corporate rate is 22% for tax year 2025, and we found no change for 2026. One DGT article gives a different rate for 2022, so confirm the rate in the statute for the relevant year before computing a real return.
What is the late-filing penalty for a company?
UU KUP Article 7 sets a penalty of Rp1,000,000 for a late corporate annual return, collected by tax assessment letter. The penalty does not remove the duty to file or pay, and the Coretax account should be tested well before the deadline.
