The 2027 cuti bersama days, per the State Secretariat announcement, are 5 February (Chinese New Year), 9, 12 and 15 March (Eid al-Fitr), 25 March (Good Friday), 18 May (Eid al-Adha), 19 May (Vesak) and 24 December (Christmas). Employers following the decree will therefore close from 6 to 15 March 2027.

Is cuti bersama compulsory for private companies?

No. Cuti bersama binds civil servants; for private employers it is optional and, when applied, deducted from annual leave.

Both decrees state that collective leave reduces annual leave and that private-sector implementation is decided by each company's management, so employers should announce which days the office will observe.

What must employers know about pay, THR and tax deadlines?

Holidays affect overtime, the THR religious holiday allowance and monthly tax deadlines.

  • Holiday work. Under Article 85 of the Manpower Law, employees need not work on official holidays; an employer that requires it pays overtime. Under Article 31 of Government Regulation 35 of 2021, for a five-day, 40-hour week, holiday work is paid at 2 times the hourly wage for the first eight hours, 3 times for the ninth hour, and 4 times for the tenth to twelfth hours.
  • THR. The religious holiday allowance must be paid no later than seven days before the employee's religious holiday, under Minister of Manpower Regulation 6 of 2016 (Kemnaker JDIH).
  • Tax deadlines. A monthly tax payment due on a weekend, public holiday or cuti bersama day may be paid on the next working day, as the DJP explains under PMK 81/2024. Annual deadlines do not shift, so the individual return remains due on 31 March. See our guide on how to file individual tax returns and the Indonesia tax compliance calendar 2026.

How can finance teams plan around the holiday calendar?

Build one internal calendar combining holidays, THR, payroll and tax dates, because Eid al-Fitr in 2026 and 2027 falls close to the 31 March tax deadline. For support aligning payroll, THR and tax filing dates, see our tax compliance and audit readiness service.

Frequently asked questions

How many public holidays does Indonesia have in 2026?

Indonesia has 17 national public holidays in 2026, with Eid al-Fitr counted as two days on 21 and 22 March. The government also set 8 cuti bersama days. Both were fixed by the joint decree of the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and Administrative Reform signed on 19 September 2025.

How many public holidays are there in Indonesia in 2027?

There are 18 national public holidays in 2027, including two Isra Mi'raj observances (5 January and 26 December) and a two-day Eid al-Fitr on 10 and 11 March. The government also set 8 cuti bersama days. The joint ministerial decree was signed on 15 September 2026.

What is cuti bersama?

Cuti bersama is collective leave set by the government, usually placed next to a public holiday to create a longer break. It applies to civil servants. For private companies it is optional, and where a company observes it, the day is deducted from employees' annual leave. Each employer decides and should tell staff in advance.

Do employees get paid extra for working on a public holiday?

Yes. Employees are not obliged to work on official holidays, and an employer that requires holiday work must pay overtime under Government Regulation 35 of 2021. For a five-day, 40-hour week, the rate is 2 times the hourly wage for the first eight hours, rising to 3 and then 4 times for later hours.

Do tax deadlines move when they fall on a holiday?

Monthly tax payment deadlines that fall on a weekend, public holiday or cuti bersama day can be met on the next working day. Annual deadlines do not move: individual returns remain due on 31 March and corporate returns four months after the financial year ends.
